“I love growing mushrooms, but I also enjoy the community around the industry. Catching up with other mushroom farmers and talking about the latest in growing technologies is the best way to stay motivated to be the best we can be.”
Peadar McGee’s intrest in growing mushrooms came from his older brother who had a mushroom farm. He decided to build his own growing houses and 20 years on his farm and growing is highly commended in the mushroom industry.
Peadar’s obsession with cleanliness and hygiene (he was twice runner up in the National Hygiene Awards) has brought him great success and he now employs 50 full time and 10 part time pickers. However, his long list of awards and accreditations (Leaf Marque, Assured Produce and Field to Ford) hasn’t changed the homely family atmosphere of the farm and the entire family pitches in to help with the picking of their delicate, delicious produce. The farm has significantly reduced its carbon footprint in recent years by introducing a biomass boiler fulled by wood chip.Grower < 1 2 3 4 >
